Mohawks sweep Albany

AMSTERDAM — The Amsterdam Mohawks improved to 19-4 overall with a sweep of a Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League doubleheader against the Albany Dutchmen on Tuesday at Rao Family Stadium at Shuttleworth Park.

Amsterdam won the first game, 11-8, and posted a 6-5 win in the second game to complete the sweep.

In the first game, C.J. Funk had a home run, three RBIs and scored two runs for the Mohawks.

Stone Miyao was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Amsterdam, Keith Jones was 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Bryce Eblin had a double, an RBI and scored a run.

Cam Hill had a single and scored two runs for the Mohawks, Kai Roberts had a single, RBI and scored a run, and Riley Langerman had a single and two RBIs.

Mike Handal was 3-for-4 with two home runs, three RBIs and three runs scored for Albany, while Logan Beard had two doubles, three RBIs and scored a run.

Carter Frederick earned the win on the mound for Amsterdam, while Zach Cable was credited with the save.

In the second game, Amsterdam plated five runs in the bottom of the third before holding off a late Albany rally to post a 6-5 victory.

Hill was 2-for-3 with a solo home run, an RBI and two runs scored for the Mohawks, while Brett Coker had a single, a double, and scored a run.

Jake Reinisch had a double and an RBI for Amsterdam, Funk had a single, two RBIs and scored a run, and Eblin had a single and scored a run.

Tom Kretzler was 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored for Albany, while Christian Kondo was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Nick Schwartz had a double for the Dutchmen, Handal finished with a single and two RBIs, and George Rainer singled and scored a run.

Adam Zebrowski and Ryan McGee each added singles for Albany.

Brian Yetter earned the win for Amsterdam, striking out two, walking one and allowing on hit over two innings. Shane Harris started the game for the Mohawks, striking out five, walking one and allowing seven hits over four innings.

Amsterdam is scheduled to travel to Saugerties today for a 7:05 p.m. contest.
