Teams from Broadalbin-Perth, Mayfield, Northville and OESJ were well-rewarded Monday when brackets for the Section II boys’ and girls’ soccer tournaments were unveiled.
In Class D, the Northville boys’ were the only team from Fulton and Montgomery counties to receive an overall No. 1. In that tournament’s bracket, OESJ is a spot behind Northville at No. 2.
The Mayfield boys’ team also earned a No. 2 seed. Also in that Class C tournament, Canajoharie is ranked No. 10 and Fort Plain is No. 16.
In the Class A boys’ tournament, No. 8 Gloversville will play No. 9 Amsterdam in a first-round game. In Class B, Broadalbin-Perth earned a No. 4 seed, while Fonda-Fultonville is No. 16 and Johnstown is No. 18.
In the Class D girls’ bracket, Northville is the No. 2 seed and OESJ is No. 3. In the Class B girls’ tournament, Broadalbin-Perth also received a No. 3 seed.

Johnstown earned the No. 15 seed in the Class B girls’ bracket, while Fonda-Fultonville is one spot behind. Canajoharie is No. 9 in the Class C girls’ tournament, a spot ahead of Western Athletic Conference foe Galway.
In the Class A girls’ tournament, Amsterdam earned the No. 8 seed.
This year’s Section II soccer tournaments are the first since 2019; no area soccer tournaments were held during the 2020-21 academic year due to restrictions related to the novel coronavirus pandemic. The lone defending champion from that year from Montgomery or Fulton counties is the Northville girls’ soccer team, which won the 2019 Section II Class D championship.
This year’s tournament action begins Tuesday.
C/FP WINS RESUMED GAME
In a Class D football game that resumed Monday after it was suspended in the second quarter Friday evening due to thunder and lightning, Canajoharie/Fort Plain pulled away for a 40-20 win over Helderberg Valley. Aidan O’Neil ran for 106 yards and was one of six players to score a touchdown for Canajoharie/Fort Plain, which led 14-7 at the time of suspension on Friday.
South Glens Falls defeated Gloversville 19-25, 25-9, 25-10, 25-20 in Foothills Council girls’ volleyball. Allie Salvione had 20 assists and 15 digs, and Zoie Tesi had 11 kills and 11 digs for Gloversville.
