BROADALBIN — South Glens Falls’ speed and height advantage proved to be too much for the Broadalbin-Perth Patriots.

Sydney Hart and Kaitlin McDonough combined for 48 points for the Bulldogs as South High romped to a 68-38 Foothills Council victory in girls’ basketball action Monday night at the Robert C. Munn Gymnasium at Broadalbin-Perth High School.

“We weren’t ready for their speed,” Broadalbin-Perth coach Dave Bush said. “We talked about what they were going to do and how they were going to do it, but they are quicker in person than they are on tape.”

Hart hit for 11 of her game-high 26 points in the opening quarter as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 20-12 advantage.

South High spread the scoring around in the second quarter, with all five starters scoring to stretch its lead to 42-23 at the break.

The Bulldogs slowed the pace in the second half and managed to keep the Patriots in check, often allowing them one shot at the basket as they controlled the defensive boards.

Hart finished with 26 points, including four 3-pointers, while McDonough added a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds and Alivia Kennedy had a pair of 3-pointers in her eight-point effort.

Molly Russom and Camille Calderone paced Broadalbin-Perth (5-3 Foothills, 5-4 overall) with seven points apiece, while Haleigh Hayes and Mairead Marsden added six points apiece.

“We missed some open and some easy shots and they knocked down theirs,” coach Bush said. “That is part of the game. Sydney Hart is someone you have to try to stop but when everyone else is knocking stuff down, it is a lot tougher to defend. They jumped out and we had to settle back in. We did for a little bit and made a couple of runs but they were a little too big for us.”
