High schools: Amsterdam baseball falls to Averill Park

SPORTS Averill Park won 12-2 Thursday against Amsterdam in a non-league baseball game. Wyatt Thorsen struck out five batters in five scoreless innings to claim the win. Nicholas Galuski had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored, while Michael Wormuth had three RBIs, two hits and one run scored. For Amsterdam, Manny Santos produced two hits, one RBI and one run scored. Averill Park scored 11 runs in the game’s first three innings, and led 12-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

Schoharie won 13-2 against Berne-Knox-Westerlo in a Western Athletic Conference game. Eight players had a hit for Schoharie, which scored nine runs in the first inning. Quin Barton and Justin VanGasbeck each scored three runs, and John Polley and Lawrence Zeufle each registered two RBIs. For B-K-W, Ryan Feliciano had a double.

Averill Park defeated Johnstown 16-4 in a non-league girls’ lacrosse game. Abby Houser had five goals and an assist, while Lilli VanDerKar produced four goals and two assists, Gwen Jamison added two scores and three assists, and Lizzie Hansen scored four goals. For Johnstown, Jenna Barker scored two goals.

In a Western Athletic Conference baseball game played Wednesday, Galway won 22-3 against Northville in five innings. Myles Pleasants had five hits and six RBIs in the win, Ryan Pudney added three hits and Eric Zelezniak pitched three perfect innings.
