SPORTS – Colin Handy surrendered two hits and struck out six in Mayfield’s 7-0 Western Athletic Conference baseball win over Northville Thursday.
Zach Byrns had two hits and two RBIs for Mayfield, and Cameron Abdella had a hit and an RBI. The Panthers jumped on the Falcons with four runs in the first inning.
Jack Montanye gave up one hit over four innings, Richie Tamsett allowed no hits over the final two frames, and the Canajoharie pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts as the Cougars shut down OESJ 10-0 in another WAC game.
Tommy Weingart, Zack Suite and Tamsett had two hits apiece, with Suits collecting three RBIs and Tamsett finishing with two RBIs. Tamsett hit a triple and double and Weingart also doubled.
Schuylerville pushed runs across in the first, fifth and six innings to edge Glens Falls 3-1. Owen Sherman had two hits and an RBI for the Black Horses, and Mark Earley had a double and an RBI.
Shane Wetherington hit a home run and double, drove in three runs and scored two in Duanesburg’s 7-6 non-league victory over Waterford-Halfmoon. Derrick Pontore had two hits for the Fordians.
Daniel Woloszyn’s fielder’s choice brought home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake beat Gloversville 8-7. Burnt Hills scored twice in its last at-bat. John Wells had a double, single and an RBI for Burnt Hills, Shane Bonney had two hits and an RBI, and Luke Haluska had two hits. Lukas Oathout had a hit, an RBI and a run scored for Gloversville.
BRAVES RALLY, WIN
Fonda-Fultonville erased a 5-2 deficit with four runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth to beat Schoharie 10-9 in a Western Athletic Conference softball game.
Talor Ferrucci and Amber Cole both went 3 for 4 and scored two runs for the Braves, with Cole connecting for a double.
Galway got wins from Julia Reedy in the 100 hurdles and triple jump, and beat Fort Plain 80-58 in a Western Athletic Conference girls’ track and field meet. Jordan DeNinno won the 400 hurdles, high jump and long jump for the Hilltoppers, Amelie Schwab won the 200 and 400, and Sarah Florian won the shot put and discus.
The Galway boys defeated Fort Plain 89-45 as Dalton Sargent won the 100, 200, long jump and triple jump for the Eagles. Thomas Villano won the shot put and discus for Galway.
Corbin Clements scored five goals and Hansen Peck totaled four goals and one assist in Schuylerville’s 17-3 boys’ Foothills Council lacrosse win over Amsterdam. Nate Bohm, Alex DiCaterino and Chris Tilley scored for the Rams.
