Miller’s grand slam helps Mohawks win 13th straight game

Gage Miller hit a grand slam Friday to help the Amsterdam Mohawks to a 6-3 PGCBL win over the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs.

AMSTERDAM — Make it 13 straight wins for the Amsterdam Mohawks.

Gage Miller’s grand slam in the fourth inning Friday lifted the Mohawks to a 6-3 PGCBL victory over the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs at Shuttleworth Park.

The victory completed a home-and-home sweep of the DiamondDawgs for the Mohawks (33-4). They won 8-2 on Thursday in Little Falls.

Briggs Rutter gave the Mohawks a 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI single.

The DiamondDawgs scored three times in the second inning to take the lead. The Mohawks cut the deficit to a run on Cade Bush’s RBI single in the third.

The Mohawks loaded the bases in the fourth on a double by Hunter Thomas, a single by Josh Overbrook and hit by pitch to Nick Giamarusti. After fouling off three straight 1-2 pitches, Miller hit his game-winning slam.

The Mohawks are off Saturday. They face Saugerties Stallions at 7:05 p.m. Sunday in Saugerties.
