High schools: Galway, Mayfield remain undefeated in girls’ volleyball

Galway swept Canajoharie/Fort Plain, 25-5, 25-12, 25-19, to remain undefeated in girls’ volleyball on Wednesday, at 3-0 in the Western Athletic Conference and 4-0 overall.

Sophia Fasolino had eight aces, 16 assists and three kills for the Eagles, Grace O’Brien had 12 kills, three blocks, 13 assists and four aces and Jayden DeVellis had 16 digs.

Mayfield (3-0, 6-0) also remained undefeated, by beating Schoharie, 25-19, 26-24, 25-20.

Madison King had two aces, eight kills, one assist, two blocks and 15 digs for Mayfield, Morgan Ashline had five kills, one block and eight digs, Meara Fitzgerald had two kills and 15 assists and Brooke Long had four kills, one block and 16 digs.

Tori Harrington led Schoharie (2-2, 2-3) with 18 service points, two aces and seven kills, and Sophia Styles had 11 service points, two aces, five assists and three digs.

Fonda-Fultonville defeated Middleburgh, 25-5, 25-13, 25-18.

Amber Cole had 18 assists, two aces and three digs for Fonda, Maddy Mott had six kills, five aces and four digs and Avary Vainauskas had six aces, two kills and three digs.

Payton Yung had four kills, five digs and three aces for Middleburgh, and Megan Bramer had three kills, seven assists and three aces.

Mekeel Christian Academy swept three games from Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbon, 25-15, 25-23, 25-12, as Gabriella Luna had 21 assists and Alanah Barnhill had 10 kills for the Lions.

Berne-Knox-Westerlo dropped the first two sets to OESJ, but came back to win 24-25, 17-25, 25-15, 28-26, 15-12.

Jade Dygert had 12 aces for OESJ.

SCOTIA BLANKS JOHNSTOWN

Scotia-Glenville led 9-0 at halftime and went on to beat Johnstown 13-0 in Foothills Council boys’ soccer.

Kofi Jack had five goals and four assists for the Tartans, and Xavier DeLuca had three goals and four assists.

Queensbury built a 2-0 halftime lead on goals by Gavin Kelly and Max Roca, then held on to beat Schuylerville 2-1. Alex Renner scored in the 53rd minute for Schuylerville.

Casey Clarke scored two goals, and Colin Anderson scored one as Galway topped Berne-Knox-Westerlo/Duanesburg 3-1 in the Western Athletic Conference. Chris Maher assisted on two goals for the Eagles.

Middleburgh took a 1-0 halftime lead on an own goal and added Austin Johns’ penalty kick goal in the 52nd minute for a 2-0 win over Mayfield.

Ben Croote made eight saves for the Knights.

Jonah Bluvas scored on an assist from Will Hernigle to give Fonda-Fultonville a 1-0 win over Canajoharie. Sam Kosiba made 16 saves for Fonda, and Williams Douglass stopped seven shots for Canajoharie.

CRAHAN GETS SHUTOUT, ASSIST

Goalkeeper Emma Crahan made 12 saves and also assisted on Talia Anderson’s goal as Fonda-Fultonville defeated Canajoharie 1-0 Western Athletic Conference girls’ soccer.

Briana Repscher and Alaina Martin each had a goal and an assist, Lily Ballard scored a goal and Olivia Borst had one assist as Schoharie defeated Fort Plain 3-1.

Madison Delgado scored for Fort Plain.

Jaidyn Chest scored five goals to lead Mayfield to a 9-0 victory over Middleburgh.

Galway and Berne-Knox-Westerlo tied 0-0, as Eibhleann McElhinney made seven saves for the Eagles and Claire Curvin made seven saves for the Bulldogs.
