High schools: Krempa’s goal at end of regulation lifts Johnstown field hockey to win

JOHNSTOWN Cole Krempa scored as time expired in regulation to give Johnstown a 2-1 non-league field hockey win over defending Section III Class B champion Holland Patent on Saturday.

The goal was set up by a corner as Caroline Krempa and Ayaka Sasaki assisted on the game-winning tally for the Lady Bills (6-2).

Caroline Krempa scored in the third quarter to tie the score. Michaela Cushman tallied in the first quarter for Holland Patent.

Johnstown goalie Emilia Haverly stopped six shots.

Gloversville beat Ichabod Crane 8-1 behind two goals and an assist from Bella Gilbert. Charlie Perron added a goal and two assists. Karyssa Hope, Annabelle Frisch, Jorja Perron, Zoey Sartin and Maia Morales also scored for Gloversville.

In non-league boys’ soccer action, Johnstown edged Fonda-Fultonville 2-1. Caleb Sanjurio and Joe Ercolino scored for the Sir Bills. Estiven Lopez had the Braves’ goal.

Ella Drake had three goals in Scotia-Glenville’s 4-0 Foothills Council girls’ soccer victory over Johnstown. Susan Sidlauskas also scored for the Tartans.

Goals by Trevor Ruberti and Matt Febbie gave Mayfield a 2-0 victory over Lake George in the championship game of the Mayfield Tournament. Sean Foreman made four saves for Mayfield.

Greenwich beat Gloversville 4-3 in the consolation game. Sawyer Pierce, Nando Perez and Jordan Yanno scored for Gloversville.

Marcy Hotaling and Jillian Sassanella scored for Broadalbin-Perth in a 2-1 non-league overtime win over Mechanicville. Mairead Marsden made 13 saves for the Patriots to backstop the win. For Mechanicville, Maddy Hopeck scored off an Emma Andrew assist, and Liv Horan was credited with 11 saves.

The Fonda-Fultonville girls’ cross country team finished fourth in Division II of the Queensbury Cross Country Invitational. Matheu Dettenrieder was fourth for Fonda-Fultonville in 16:54.8.

The Canajoharie/Fort Plain girls’ volleyball team lost to Waterford-Halfmoon 25-7, 25-19 in the silver bracket championship match of the Waterford-Halfmoon tournament.

C/FP lost matches to Catholic Central (25-20, 25-9) and Scotia-Glenville (25-8, 25-9) before beating Warrensburg (25-17, 25-18) and Cohoes (15-12, 19-25, 15-9). Gab Murphy had eight kills and five aces in the tournament. Avery Fichthorn also had eight kills, Vivian Nunez collected 20 assists and 10 aces, Monica Kulcynski had 13 aces and 10 digs and Lola Schnettler added 15 digs and seven aces.
