High schools: Mayfield earns overtime girls’ soccer win


Jaidyn Chest scored on an assist from Abigail Chest in overtime to give the Mayfield girls’ soccer team a 1-0 win over Duanesburg on Friday in a Western Athletic Conference game. Sallyann Agerter made four saves for the shutout.

Sydney Schell and Nataley Caponera tallied for OESJ in the Wolves’ 2-0 win over Middleburgh. Jordan DeNinno had an assist.

Berne-Knox-Westerlo scored twice in the second half to eke out a 3-2 win over Canajoharie. Claire Scram scored all three for the Bulldogs. Sara Macrina, Lauren Emmerich and Alanna Yangon had assists, and Claire Curvin made nine saves in the win. Soren Veit-Scott and Mariah Hazzard scored to give Canajoharie an early 2-0 lead. Tori Blakeslee made 18 saves for the Cougars.


In football action, Johnstown defeated Taconic Hills 48-20 in a Class B contest. Cobleskill-Richmondville beat Broadalbin-Perth 20-13 in a Class C game.

Kofi Jack scored four times in Scotia-Glenville’s 5-1 Foothills Council boys’ soccer win over Broadalbin-Perth. Xavier DeLuca had the other goal, while Landon Russom scored on an assist from Massimo Pasquarelli for the Patriots.

In girls’ volleyball, OESJ swept Canajoharie/Fort Plain, 25-22, 25-20, 25-15. Brooke Trumble had six aces, three digs, eight assists and seven kills for OESJ. Maddison Simonds added eight aces, four digs and six assists. Jade Dygert had three aces, eight digs, five kills and a block. Gab Murphy had two blocks and eight kills for Canajoharie/Fort Plain. Avery Ficthorn added three aces and six kills. Monika Kulcynski had seven aces and five assists.
