GLOVERSVILLE – In her fourth season as Gloversville coach, Emily Parslow heads into the season with a roster that includes six returning players.
The returnees include juniors Alexandra Albanese, Lucia Bouchard, Allie Salvione, Zoie Tesi and Shiasia Williams, as well as freshman Angelina Christman. Tesi was named Foothills Council honorable mention last season as a sophomore.
The junior group is one that Parslow has coached in all four of her seasons.
“I’ve been with this group since the beginning. I love this team,” Parslow said. “We’ve been kind of going through it together. We’ve been through a lot.”
Last season, Gloversville went 2-18 overall and 0-18 in Foothills Council play. Both wins came against Mekeel Christian Academy. They were the first victories for the Lady Dragons since 2018. Gloversville lost Arianna Brown and Layla Chapin to graduation.
Looking to replace them will be a group of three newcomers, including junior Jacqueline Rattray, sophomore Emily Strauser and freshman Bailey Pierce.
“We’re shooting for a .500 record this season,” Parslow said. “I really think that’s a solid goal for this group.”
After struggling to field a varsity team in recent years, numbers are on the upswing for the Gloversville program.
“We have 45 kids in our Little Dragons program, which is grades K-3, and 30 in our fifth- and sixth-grade group,” Parslow said. “We’ll have teams at all levels this year, which is great for our program.”
After opening practice on Nov. 14, the Lady Dragons will have had nearly a month before playing their first game. Parslow, who will be assisted this season by Brittany Macri, said she is putting the extra prep time to good use.
“We’re playing better every day,” Parslow said. “We have some things to tighten up, but we’ve got some time still before our first game. I’m looking forward to the season. I’m looking forward to getting started on Dec. 10.”
Gloversville is slated to open its season Dec. 10 with a non-league game at Mekeel Christian Academy at noon. The Lady Dragons will travel to Scotia-Glenville on Dec. 12 for its Foothills Council opener at 6 p.m.
