RACING AROUND – When it comes to racing 358 modifieds lately at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park, Lance Willix has been the man to beat.

Willix has won the last three small-block modified events at The Ridge.

Sunday, Corey Cormier broke Willix’s win streak, taking the field from green to checkers for his first win of the season.

With his victory in the DIRTcar Series event, Cormier earned a guaranteed starting spot in September’s Outlaw 200 at Fulton Speedway.

“That’s huge,” Cormier said in Victory Lane. “There are going to be a lot of cars there and it is going to be good to show up and know that even if we don’t run too good at least we are already qualified. Now all we need to do is improve on our starting spot.”

Cormier held off the challenges of top five finishers Shaun Shaw, Willix, Jordan McCreadie and Garrett Poland. Tyler Meeks, Robert Bublak, Alan Fink, Nick Webb and Michael Mandigo round out the top 10 in the 17-car field.

“Lance [Willix] has been helping me out a ton,” Cormier said. “He is super fast and has definitely pointed me in a good direction so I have to definitely thank him.”

Also cashing in on The Ridge’s 20th Anniversary Night rewards were Tobias Slingshot drivers A.J. Albreada and Bodie Marks who are both 4-for-4 in feature wins this season.

Albreada took home the $1,000 winner’s check in the All-Star Senior Slingshot division, while Marks picked up the win worth $300 in the Junior Slingshot division. The prize money was presented by the weekly slingshot class sponsor Northeast Paving and Sealcoating.

Cody Ochs picked up his first win of the season in the 17 602 Sportsman feature over Andrew Buff, Ricky Quick Tony Farone and Butchie Irwin, while Tavien Blowers won his second Limited Sportsman feature of the season.

Luke Horning collected his third-straight Pro Stock feature win of the season, while Jason Samrov held off Matt Mosher to post his second-straight win in the Street Stock division. Damian Ward and Daniel Joubert claimed victories respectively in the main events for the Dual Cam and Single Cam Mini Stocks.

The race action at Glen Ridge was put on hold for an hour Sunday after Limited Sportsman driver Wesley Sutliff made hard contact with the first turn wall, flipped over the wall and barrel-rolled down an embankment coming to rest in a grove of trees. Sutliff returned to his pit area. The track safety crew and ambulance service were later called to his pit and it was determined that the injuries began to develop that required Sutliff to be air lifted from the speedway. Sutliff has since been released from the hospital and is resting at home.

KLINGER WINS BROOKFIELD STSS EVENT

Blaine Klinger picked up his first career Short Track Super Series Crate 602 Sportman North Region victory Sunday at the revitalized Brookfield Speedway at the Madison County Fairgrounds.

With 24 of the 29 sportsmen on hand taking the green for the feature, Klinger used his front-row starting spot to his advantage to jump out to the early lead before battling an ill-handling car late in the race to claim the $1,600 winner’s check.

Joe Toth closed on Klinger late in the race but ran out of time before the checkers fell on the 25-lap feature. North Region point leader Derrick McGrew Jr. drove from his ninth starting spot to finish third. Travis Green and Dylan Madsen round out the top five. Jared LaBagh, David Hackett, Jr., Roger Hummer, Harry Shaffer and Josh Allen made up the second five.

Kenny Gates led all 20 laps to pick up the Pro Stock victory over Bret Belden, Gus Gould, Mike Keith and Tom Denton.

Fort Plain’s Tyler Bobar won the Limited Sportsman main event, while Keith Tesiero Jr. grabbed the 4-cylinder and dual cam victory and Wayne Russell Jr. was crowned the single cam winner.

Brayden Morrison and Sullivan Dickey both dominated their respective 15-lap All-Star and Junior Slingshot features to take home the victories.

Brookfield Speedway’s next event is a Thursday night clash on June 15 featuring the Crate 602 Sportsman, Pro Stocks, Four Cylinders, and All-Star and Junior Slingshots.
