The Glen Ridge Motorsports Park may have crowned their champions last Friday but there is still plenty of action being packed into the little track on the hill.
Making the switch from Friday night to Saturday, Glen Ridge will be hosting the “Sowle 60,” a 60-lap, $4,007.11-to-win main event for the modifieds sponsored by Sowle Trailer Repair.
Besides the hefty cash prize, the winner also will be awarded a guaranteed starting spot in the Short Track Nationals at Five Mile Point Speedway courtesy of Brett Deyo Promotions.
Pit gates open at 3:30 p.m. with the grandstands opening at 4:30 p.m.
General grandstand admission will be $15. for adults, $7.11 for students and kids 5 and under free.
The event also will include the sportsman, cruiser and street stock divisions plus the Magsarus Racesaver Sprint cars.
Speaking of the Glen Ridge champions, congratulations to Bobby Varin bringing the Nelson No. 85 home to the team’s and his first Glen Ridge track championship.
Brian Pessolano was crowned the 602 Sportsman champions, while Rob VanAernam added the Glen Ridge Street Stock division title to his 2013 Fonda Speedway title.
Shane Playford won in the Lightning Cruiser division and Billy Jaycox was the top Magsarus Sprints driver.
Classic 200
Otto Sitterly drove to a second place finish behind Bob Bond at the 200-lap, 57th annual Budweiser International Classic for supermodifieds Saturday at Oswego Speedway.
Also turning in a strong showing was Jessica Zemken who placed 23rd in the 34-car field.
Refund offered
The management of Utica-Rome Speedway announced that fans who bought two day passes for the New Yorker 200 two day event and did not get a refund at the speedway on Monday, you can still mail the wristband to the speedway office to receive a refund for the unused day of the pass.
Fans can mail their wristband and a self addressed stamped envelope to the speedway office at Utica-Rome Speedway LLC, P.O. Box 489, West Winfield, NY 13491 and the refund will be mailed back as soon as possible. The refund will be based off the percentage of the savings in buying a two day pass.
Before Monday’s rain out, Larry Wight raced to his first career modified feature win at Utica-Rome on Sunday.
Also picking up a feature win Sunday was former Fonda Speedway late model driver Jack Miller. The win snapped a 14 year winless drought for Miller.
Friesen wins fourth title
Stewart Friesen and Matt Sheppard entered the final night of the regular season at Utica rome tied at the top of the point’s standings.
Sheppard was not in attendance Sunday because he was fulfilling his Super DIRTcar Series obligation,
Friesen needed only to start the feature to collect his fourth consecutive Utica-Rome Speedway Modified championship and the $10,000 that goes with the title.
2013 Fonda Yearbook
The production of the 2013 Fonda Speedway Yearkbook is well underway and will be in print in the upcoming week and ready for distribution at Fonda Speedway on Sept. 14, Sept. 21 and 22.
