NEW PALTZ — The Sage Colleges’ women’s volleyball team traveled to the SUNY-New Paltz Hawks Fall Invitational on Saturday and went 1-1 on the day after dropping a 3-0 decision to Montclair State (27-25, 25-19, 25-21 , but then posted a 3-0 (25-15,25-11,25-19) win over Southern Vermont College. The Gators are now 2-7 on the year.

Senior captain Alyssa Nellis, a Johnstown graduate, added six digs with four kills, 16 assists, two aces with two block assists for Sage against Montclair State, while sophomore middle hitter Miranda Nethaway, a Fonda-Fultonville graduate, picked up seven kills in the contest.

Against Southern Vermont College, Nethaway had five kills with an ace and a block assist, while Nellis picked up four kills, nine setting assists with five aces, five digs and a pair of block assists.

Nellis has added 142 career total blocks and moved into ninth place ahead of Lauren LaRoque (140, 1996-1999) on the Sage block list.

On Friday, Sage faced host New Paltz in the first match of the tournament, dropping a 3-1 decision (25-9, 18-25, 25-11, 25-17). Sage then fell to Stockton University, 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-6).

Against SUNY-New Paltz, Nellis had eight digs with four total blocks.

Against Stockton University, Nellis recorded two kills with 11 setting assists, an ace, nine digs and a pair of block assists.
