Gov. Kathy Hochul is warning New Yorkers that unhealthy air quality conditions are expected to remain into the weekend, but it’s still uncertain how it may affect the July 4 holiday. Speaking in New York City, the governor said the current winds bringing the smoke from the Canadian wildfires into New York should start to dissipate over the next few days, but it is impossible to predict anything further into the future. “Much of this weather is going to be lingering across the state all the way through tomorrow. Gov. Kathy Hochul is warning that the state is expected to experience low air quality conditions similar to earlier this month, when New Yorkers could see and smell the smoke due to the Canadian wildfires. Hochul’s office first warned of possible deterioration of the state’s air quality on Tuesday and her office issued advisories for Western, Central and Eastern Lake Ontario regions. Since then, the advisory has been expanded and is expected to impact residents throughout the state.
