One killed in Wednesday evening Broadalbin crash; Passenger, 21, dies, Fulton County Sheriff says

BROADALBIN — A 21-year-old passenger was killed in a single-vehicle accident in Broadalbin Wednesday evening. The car went off the Lakeview Road, struck several mailboxes and ended up in a wooded area, according to Fulton County Sheriff Richard Giardino. The passenger who died was taken to Nathan Littauer Hospital. The driver, 17, was airlifted to Albany Medical Center with critical injuries, Giardino said. No other occupants were in the vehicle. "It's a sad case," said Giardino. Authorities are still investigating the incident. Emergency responders arrived onsite, including volunteers from the Broadalbin-Kennyetto Fire Company. BROADALBIN — The Broadalbin Diner reopened this week after extensive water damage caused the restaurant to close for two months.The restaurant opened its doors to customers again Wednesday after being closed since July 3. Owner Amanda Lee said a main water pipe break above the restaurant caused the nearly two-month closure.“It leaked down into our restaurant, the kitchen, the dining room, and actually reached our basement,” Lee said. “The contractors were here for two months. BROADALBIN — Within moments, John Lawrence grabbed a garden hose on Sunday night and started spraying down a stove aflame in his neighbor's Broadalbin house. He stood around the doorway at 117 Benedict Loop for about 10 minutes before fire crews arrived. "If he didn't do that, it would've been gone," said Rachel Kasierski, one of the occupants who wasn't home at the time. The incident occurred around 1:45 p.m, resulting in the driver being sent to a local hospital by Lake Valley EMS.
