Ephratah mining operation awaiting permit renewal for more blasts, expansion

EPHRATAH — An aggregate company is awaiting authorization to set off more explosions at a Ephratah quarry.  Carver Sand & Gravel would be allowed to blast the mountainside up to 30 times a year — 12 more times than currently allowed — under proposed mining permit renewal terms currently pending before state regulators. The Adirondack Park Agency permit review process is anticipated to wrap up in late summer or early fall, according to spokesperson Keith McKeever.
