GALWAY — For several years, after it closed in 2016, Jessica Bellone drove past Chuck’s Store on Sacandaga Road thinking the community could use another local spot. Kitten Angels, a not-for-profit kitten and cat rescue in Mayfield, is pleading for help as they struggle to find space and money for their new intakes. The volunteer-only organization posted to its Facebook page on Monday asking for donations. “We have had so many kitties and so many recent medical emergencies, that we are in the red,” the post said. “We desperately need your help and support in order to properly care for the fosters we already have and to reopen our doors to take in any new kittens/nursing mamas, pregnant kitties, and of course, the orphaned and abandoned kitties.”…

Former Johnstown mayor, teacher William Pollak remembered for always giving back to community

JOHNSTOWN — Johnstown native William Michael Pollak, who passed away July 15, left a lasting memory in the area he grew up, friends and officials said. Pollak, who was 87, was also known as Fox, Prof, Panda, Coach, Curator and Mayor, according to his obituary, and his legacy will be his philanthropic, educational and civil service work. Pollak graduated from the high school in 1953 — a football and basketball player, and track runner. He went on to St. Lawrence University in Canton for a year, before entering the U.S. Army for two, then returning to his studies closer to home…

GLOVERSVILLE — A local businesswoman is yearning for the Spaulding family to get back on their feet. On Saturday, Kayla Dwight of Kay’s Beautique will host a benefit buffet and raffle for two adults and four children displaced in a Gloversville fire in May. Several pets also died in the 5th Street blaze. Dwight knows one of the victims, mother Kimberly Spaulding, from her high school days.
