TOWN OF AMSTERDAM — An overfilled refrigeration system released gas at Aldi in the town of Amsterdam prompting the evacuation and temporary closure of the supermarket on Monday.The Fort Johnson Volunteer Fire Company responded to the store on Route 30 around 12:25 p.m. after an employee reported fumes from a possible leak from refrigeration compressors, Chief Jaime Swezey said.All customers and staff evacuated the building by the time crews arrived.
