Mechanicville to be Red Raiders no more after school board votes to retire moniker

MECHANICVILLE — The Mechanicville City School District’s Board of Education decided to retire the Red Raider moniker, 6-1, during a special board meeting Wednesday night. Some members of the board, despite voting 'yes,' did not appear to see a need to change the name. The process to replace it will begin in three weeks at the group's next scheduled meeting July 13. The lone dissenting vote was made by board member Nichole Gorsky, who did not provide a comment on her vote. Other members said they felt like they had to vote in favor because of the consequences the district could face…
