Area assemblyman proposes raising speed limit to 70 mph on some New York highways

ALBANY — A number of speed limit signs across the state are 5 mph short of acceptable in Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara's view. The Rotterdam Democrat on Tuesday announced legislation to up the maximum speed on 17 roadways from 65 to 70 mph. The slight adjustment, he wrote in a press release, keeps pace with the times. “The fact is technology has changed and more people are comfortable driving at a higher speed on the highway," said Santabarbara in a press release.
