As Pope Francis continues a series on zeal for following the example of Jesus in daily life, he took time during his daily audience with the general public at the Vatican Wednesday to turn people's attention to a saint from New York's Mohawk Valley. Capital Region and Mohawk Valley receive nearly $80 million to improve bridge infrastructure

ALBANY - The Capital Region has received $44.5 million in state funds to rehabilitate and replace bridges and culverts under a state program that aims at helping local governments strengthen their infrastructure. The Mohawk Valley region received $35.2 million.A total of 141 local governments throughout the state received $516 million provided through the state’s BRIDGE NY initiative. The program supports infrastructure projects that combat climate change by reducing flood risk, improves the resiliency of structures and prioritizes projects that benefit environmental justice communities. Unemployment average in greater Albany metro region up slightly from 2022

ALBANY — The monthly unemployment rate average in the greater Capital Region is up, yet still below pre-pandemic standards overall. The average was 4.2% in January, a bump from 3.1% in December and 4.0% last year, according to an analysis of non-seasonally-adjusted data from the state Department of Labor Tuesday.
