Judge deems Hussain flight risk, denies bail request

ALBANY —  Nauman Hussain, the former limousine operator convicted on 20 counts of manslaughter earlier this year for his role in the Oct. 6, 2018 Schoharie limousine crash, will remain behind bars while his defense team works on his appeal after a state Supreme Court justice on Friday ruled he was a flight risk if released. Justice John Egan Jr. of the state’s Third Appellate Division handed down the ruling following brief arguments from Hussain’s defense team and Schoharie County District Attorney Susan Mallery, the lead prosecutor in Hussain’s May trial.“I am not confident that if the defendant was released on…

Schoharie limo crash: Nauman Hussain seeks bail during appeals process

Following his convictions on manslaughter charges due to his role in the deaths of 20 people from a 2018 limousine crash in Schoharie, Nauman Hussain is asking a judge to be released on bail during his appeals process.  Hussain was sentenced to five to 15 years in state prison in May after a judge first rejected a plea deal last year that would have given him community service and probation in lieu of prison time.
