In reversal, New York State Supreme Court validates two Caroga bond propositions

ALBANY — The state Supreme Court's Third Appellate Division validated two out of three petitions filed by Anita McMartin Long for a major bonding referenda in Caroga.  McMartin Long's petitions were previously declined by the town based on a technicality last fall. The self-represented plaintiff's first legal attempt to flip the decision was rejected by a lower court judge in April.  "It was a battle for Caroga citizens," said McMartin Long. FONDA — An Amsterdam wastewater treatment plant worker has been awarded $191,762 by a jury in state Supreme Court in Montgomery County, which found the city violated state law when officials terminated the man with a medical marijuana license for failing a drug test.Attorneys for the city argued in court filings that the worker did not disclose his prescription, as required by employee policies, until he was suspended and then fired after failing a drug test in February 2020.Thomas Apholz, represented by Luibrand Law Firm, accused the city of unlawful employment discrimination and failure to accommodate under state Human Rights…

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Wednesday the appointment of Dianne T. Renwick to become presiding justice in the Appellate Division for the First Department of the state Supreme Court. She will be the first woman of color to hold the seat since its creation in 1894.
