Legislature moves to expand move over law to all roadside disabled vehicles

ALBANY - The state Legislature this month passed a bill that would require drivers to move over if disabled vehicles are parked on the side of the road.The bill is an expansion of New York’s current “Move Over” law, which went into effect in 2012 and requires drivers to move one lane over if approaching an emergency or hazard vehicle, including police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, construction and maintenance vehicles. It also requires drivers to slow down while passing. The bill passed this year requires drivers to move over one full lane for any vehicle on the side of the road.…
