TOWN OF AMSTERDAM — An overfilled refrigeration system released gas at Aldi in the town of Amsterdam prompting the evacuation and temporary closure of the supermarket on Monday.The Fort Johnson Volunteer Fire Company responded to the store on Route 30 around 12:25 p.m. after an employee reported fumes from a possible leak from refrigeration compressors, Chief Jaime Swezey said.All customers and staff evacuated the building by the time crews arrived. AMSTERDAM — An outdated bridge on Cranes Hollow Road in the town of Amsterdam will be replaced next year as part of ongoing efforts to eventually repair or replace every bridge in Montgomery County.“It always has to be a priority just due to the sheer number of bridges we have in the county,” County Executive Matthew Ossenfort said. “We’ve tried to do at least one bridge a year.”Montgomery County is responsible for approximately 92 bridges within its borders.
