Relyea places second at Mayfield Invitational

BENSON — The Canajoharie, Johnstown and Mayfield nordic ski teams competed in the Mayfield Invitational on Friday at Lapland Lake.

In the girls meet, Shenendehowa’s Anna Wiedmann won with a time of 24:00.5.

Mayfield’s Madison Relyea was second with a time of 24:24.8, while Queensbury’s Bailey Gengel (24:26.1) was third. Hadley-Luzerne’s Katrin Schreiner (24:29.8) was fourth and Queensbury’s Emily Atamanchuk (25:46.9) was fifth.

Johnstown’s Alayna Gray placed 16th with a time of 27:50.7, while Abigail Gottung (32:30.4) was 31st. Lauryn Wilson (34:32.7) was 35th for the Lady Bills and Jenna Thompson (36:03.7) was 36th,

Canajoharie’s Maddie Elliot (33:58.1) placed 34th and Mayfield’s Emily Frasier (36:59.5) was 39th.

Shenendehowa won the girls team title with 16 points, while Queensbury was second with 19 points. Johnsburg was third with 47 points, Guilderland was fourth with 53 points and Scotia-Glenville was fifth with 61 points.

Johnstown was eighth with 82 points, while Mayfield and Canajoharie fielded incomplete teams.

In the boys meet, Queensbury won the team title with a total of 9 points. Shenendehowa was second with 37 points and Johnsburg was third with 42 points. Lake George (50 points) was fourth and Glens Falls (52) was fifth.

Host Mayfield was seventh with 68 points and Johnstown was 11th with 123 points.

Queensbury’s Brian Beyerbach won the boys race with a time of 18:48.4, while Queensbury‘s Daniel Manzella (19:56.8) was second.

Saratoga Catholic’s Mikey Halligan (20:16.5) was third, Hadley-Luzerne’s Erik Schreiner (20:18.9) was fourth and Lake George’s Paul Lindsay (21:10.9) was fifth.

Mayfield’s Tyler Newkirk was the top local finisher, placing 16th with a time of 23:41.7.

Dylan Bumpus (24:18.8) was 22nd for Mayfield, while Antonio Mannino (26:21.8) was 30th. Riley Mykel (26:44.8) was 21st for the Panthers and Adam Liebers (27:29.1) was 35th.

Zachary Ropeter led Johnstown, placing 36th with a time of 27:56.9. Gabe Cole 28:07.5) was 38th for the Sir Bills, Dominic DiScioscia (33:03.7) was 49th and Alfio DeMarco (35:47.8) was 50th.
