Sleeping firefighter struck, killed

PORT JERVIS (AP) — An upstate New York firefighter has died after an ambulance responding to a call struck him, apparently as he slept in front of a bay door.

Port Jervis Police say the unidentified 22-year-old man was hit by a Port Jervis Volunteer Ambulance as it was leaving its building early Sunday morning near the Pennsylvania border.

The Times Herald-Record reports the victim is believed to have been sleeping in front of the bay door when the ambulance struck him on its way out of the building.

Woodstock 50 may have new venue

VERNON (AP) — A smaller Woodstock 50 festival could possibly be held at an upstate New York harness track and casino.

Town of Vernon Supervisor Randy Watson tells the Poughkeepsie Journal that Woodstock 50 has applied for a permit to hold its concert Aug. 16 to 18 at Vernon Downs.

Watson says the proposed capacity was 45,000-50,000 people — far smaller than the 150,000 planned for at the initial venue, Watkins Glen International.

An email requesting comment was sent Monday to Woodstock concert promoters.
