Bialik: Don’t forget vegans this July 4th

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Fourth of July often means hot dogs and hamburgers, but Mayim Bialik is pleading with all those grill masters out there not to ignore their vegan guests.

The “Big Bang Theory” actress, who wrapped her last season earlier this year, said people who avoid animal products like her and her kids get excited when parties include food they can eat.

The former star of “Blossom” pointed to a range of favorites, from Asian dishes to hummus and fruit, as simple go-tos for the summer party season.

This summer, Bialik has a bit more free time on her hands and is using the extra time as an opportunity to spend more time with family.

Fest drops Yarrow over sentence

NEW YORK (AP) — A music festival has disinvited folk singer Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary over his 1970 jail sentence for indecent liberties with a 14-year-old girl.

The Press and Sun Bulletin of Binghamton reports that board members of the Colorscape Chenango Arts Festival in upstate New York cited negative reaction to Yarrow on social media in their decision to remove Yarrow from the festival’s lineup.

The 81-year-old Yarrow was to appear Sept. 8 with a performance painter. A replacement has not been announced.

Yarrow was sentenced to three months in jail over a 1969 episode in which the 14-year-old and her 17-year-old sister went to his hotel seeking an autograph and he answered the door naked. Former President Jimmy Carter pardoned Yarrow in 1981.

A representative for Yarrow says the singer accepts the decision.

A$AP Rocky detained after fight

STOCKHOLM (AP) — Swedish prosecutors say rapper A$AP Rocky has been detained for a suspected attack on an unknown person in downtown Stockholm.

The Swedish Prosecution Authority says the investigation was “at an initial stage” and should be decided by midday Saturday, whether A$AP Rocky — real name Rakim Mayers — should be formally arrested. His three body guards are suspected of lesser degrees of assault under Swedish law.

In a statement, the authority said the four were detained Wednesday because they would leave the country and avoid prosecution. No further information was available.

Swedish media said the fight occurred Sunday before A$AP Rocky performed at a music festival in Sweden. It was not known who else was involved in the fight on a central Stockholm square.
